What is it?
CreatureKind Community Partners are churches, parachurch organizations, ministry groups and others committed to taking collective action to engage with issues related to animals farmed for food and food justice. In partnership with CreatureKind these institutions work to raise awareness, improve food practices, and change institutional policies to benefit the whole of God’s creation.
Why become a CK Community Partner?
The use of animals for food massively dominates all other human uses of animals, yet animals farmed for food—the animals that end up on plates across the globe—are conspicuously absent from the vast majority of Christian conversations about stewardship, creation justice, and the environment. Organized groups committed to living out their spiritual values can make a big difference through a range of efforts like:
• Forming an animal welfare and food justice committee
Including discussions about the intersection of animals with other aspects of Christian life in conferences, classrooms, and Sunday school curriculums.
• Considering how potlucks and other community meals are planned in order to maximize plant-based options and offer highest-welfare animal products, etc.
• Your own idea!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Three Steps to Becoming a CreatureKind Community Partner:
Working with CreatureKind is a collaborative, community-focused effort and free! Our emphasis is on nurturing relationships and continuous dialog, and journeying with you.
YOU determine the process for your community to enter into an ongoing relationship with CreatureKind. Perhaps it’s through a particular committee, or simply the blessing of a board of elders or the pastor. Secure their approval to explore partnership.
Contact us to let us know you are interested!
Work with us to draft a partnership agreement. The partnership agreement both outlines what your campus is already doing, and describes next steps you’re committed to engaging in. WE work together to secure approval of the partnership document and then begin to take action! One of our goals is to promote communities that demonstrate firm commitments in this area, and we will develop a plan to publicize the partnership together at a time that is mutually agreeable.

Seeker’s Church is a diverse, progressive, and affirming family of faith working for peace and justice in Washington DC. As a CreatureKind Partner Community, All Seekers Church has committed to supporting the current informal group that has been working on issues of animal welfare and food justice within their community into a recognized part of their family of faith. They will continue supporting community conversations about caring for all of Creation, encouraging at least one class in their School for Christian Growth about attending to the welfare of animals farmed for human use and consumption, and conducting a community discussion about CreatureKind and the welfare of farmed animals annually following a worship service. They commit to facilitating a sermon annually about loving God and creation by attending to the welfare of animals farmed for human use and consumption.They commit to work on sponsoring a Friendly Food Challenge at Seekers and are pursuing (subject to the approval of the Children’s Team) a multi-week curriculum for the Sunday School about animal welfare and our responsibilities as Christians to animals.
Why do we focus on Food Policy?
CreatureKind is motivated by a Christian recognition of animals as fellow worshippers of God and the conviction that when humans are kind to animals and care well for the world, God’s entire creation flourishes. It’s a win for the environment, a win for animals, a win for humans, and a win for the health of our communities, when we—individually and corporately—reduce our consumption of animals farmed for food, what they produce, and move to buy the animal products we do consume from highest-welfare sources. Plant-forward menus can save money, reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions, contribute to improved health, and reduce our reliance on factory farmed animal products. When we purchase animal products from certified highest-welfare sources, we support ethical farmers and families who are working hard to do right by the earth, by those who work with them, by the land, and by animals. Most importantly, when we include animals on our agenda, we honor our call to care for the whole earth, to anticipate the peaceable Kin-dom of God, to share the peace of Christ with all of God’s beloved creation, and to love our neighbors well.
